The mirror tells lies

Sometimes you find a person who appears like your reflection in a mirror. They are easy to see and yet not easy to reach. Everyday you hold the urge to speak to them, learn from them and yet your words bounce back without an answer. Sometimes you long for that touch of sweet words that you have dreamed of hearing. The problem here is that whilst I stand at one side of the mirror waiting for an answer, she won't even glance in the mirror because she knows it bears her reflection. At the odd chance she passes over her fear, I learn wonders of her resilience and love, but it is not long before she no longer wants to share. I worry that one day the mirror will get broken. Whilst that means I could see thousands of the one reflection I wish to see, the words could no longer connect and she would be lost.

Lost.

A thought that echoes every time, as it draws closer to the truth yet lingers like a ghost. Mirrors reflect everything, nothing can stay hidden, and yet somehow she is able to hide. Imagine having to stare at the world through a reflection of glass and light, distorting your life. And in my mind that is true of her. Because I see my reflection in her eyes and yet she looks upon the mirror as if it's already been shattered. One day I hold the hope that the mirror I have become so used to seeing as my face can be lost to the skies and I can embrace the wonders of her.

Mystery and honesty, ambiguity and yet truth, a constant complexity of what I thought I knew and what I know.

She thinks that she is not looking at the mirror nor accepting her fate. But in truth the mirror in her head whispers lies of who she is and how she appears. It is true that she appears like my reflection but to her she could not imagine being the same as anyone else. For she is unworthy and unlikeable, but none of that is true.

Because a mirror will stay broken unless it is fixed, and your reflection will fix it if only you look.
